Cameroon
Cameroon is a country situated in the West end of central Africa. It is a bilingual country with English and French as the two official languages it has a population of about 20million inhabitants. Youths make the majority of the population and are jobless due to the economic crisis that hit the country. These youths involve themselves in high risk behaviors like commercial sex and drugs in order to survive. As a result, many are HIV positive and are dying of AIDS. The street children and child labour phenomenon, and female genital mutilation practices are also prevalent in some communities.
Family Impact in Cameroon
Family Impact has been a presence in Cameroon since 2005 and concentrates on programmes for Couples and parents. It was incorporated with government in 2009 as impact Famille. We are also involved in advocacy, care giving and sensitization programs in schools, military barracks and cultural associations throughout the country. We have a special sensitization and educative programs on FGM(Female Genital Mutilation) with local chiefs and queen mothers who are the main perpetrators of this heinous practice. If the battle against FGM must be won, some other means of subsistence must be given to these queen mothers who do it for a living
